At the same time the engine was overhauled by VSE engines and the standard Stromberg carburettors were replaced with the much more reliable and more efficient SU setup. In 2006 the standard gearbox was replaced by a Derek Watson Watjag T5 5 speed unit, making the car much happier dealing with motorway speeds of today as well as improving the performance. The mileage at the time of all this work according to MoT certificates was around 40,000 miles, with the current mileage showing at 52,000 the car has really not covered many miles since.
